✅ Supporting the First Verified Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement Credits with 350 Solutions

Submarine Scientific served as the third-party subject matter expert in partnership with 350 Solutions for validation and verification of the first Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) credits soon to be issued under Isometric’s OAE from Coastal Outfalls v1.0 protocol. This marks a historic milestone for marine Carbon Dioxide Removal—moving from promising science to verified, creditable carbon removal.

🔍 Our Role
We conducted the independent model validation and verification for Planetary Technologies’ Nova Scotia OAE project. Our assessment focused on whether the project’s coupled coastal and global modeling system met the requirements of the Isometric OAE from Coastal Outfalls v1.0 protocol—including:

  • Adequate representation of key mCDR processes

  • Model evaluation against in situ baseline data

  • Quantification of gross CDR from the ocean models

  • Quantification of major sources of uncertainty

  • Documentation to support audit and reproducibility

🔧 Looking Ahead
This experience is shaping the development of more streamlined, transparent pathways for model-based MRV in ocean carbon removal. Submarine Scientific is contributing to these advances by helping to define data standards and reproducibility benchmarks for emerging protocols.
