At the 2024 AGU Fall Meeting, Submarine Scientific led a pivotal workshop focused on shaping the future of data standards for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE). Organized in collaboration with the Carbon to Sea Initiative, this session brought together scientists, modelers, data managers, and project developers to co-develop best practices for ocean-based carbon removal data workflows.

🛠️ The workshop focused on:

  • Defining metadata requirements across field, model, and sensor data

  • Identifying common pain points in data sharing and submission

  • Building consensus around scalable, open, and FAIR-aligned approaches

  • Laying the groundwork for a draft protocol now being piloted in multiple field trials

As facilitators, Submarine Scientific curated use-case examples, facilitated technical discussions, and synthesized outcomes that are now shaping the first generation of community-driven data standards for mCDR.
