Submarine presents advances in mCDR modeling and data infrastructure at Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026
Submarine Scientific joined thousands of ocean scientists from around the world at the 2026 Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM26) in Glasgow, Scotland. Held February 22–27. Submarine co-founders Veronica Tamsitt and Jacki Long both presented work focused on strengthening the scientific infrastructure for marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR).
Veronica highlighted Submarine’s work to build faster, more affordable regional biogeochemical models using modern open-source, GPU-enabled ocean modeling tools. The work included early regional applications in the Salish Sea and Mediterranean and approaches for model validation and uncertainty quantification.
Jacki presented Submarine’s work with Carbon to Sea on building trust and transparency in ocean alkalinity enhancement through the OAE Data Commons and supporting metadata tools. The initiative brings together data discovery, standardized metadata, and governance mechanisms to make field trial data easier to find, understand, and responsibly reuse across academic and private-sector OAE research.
Together, the presentations reflected two connected areas of Submarine’s work: developing fit-for-purpose modeling capabilities for mCDR MRV and the shared data infrastructure needed to evaluate, improve, and build confidence in those models.
